Remotely Control Access to Data on Your Your Smartphone At ALL Times...

I need a new phone…seriously, the one I have cannot hold a charge, it misses calls, I have to restart it continuously to get the 4G to work…essentially, it’s time to upgrade. But, like many of you, I have my life on that phone and I’m just not comfortable with just handing over my old phone to some third-party for disposal.  And, I simply have no more space to store yet another used phone.  So is my only option to stick with my current phone until it dies?

While I will eventually have to figure out the answer to that on my own, according to Laura Entis, for every new smartphone purchased after January, 2015, we will now have the option of a “Kill Switch”. Intended to be an anti-theft device, the kill switch would “allow you to lock down your phone if it gets stolen, rendering it inoperable.” It would also allow you to remotely wipe all data from the phone and prevent unauthorized factory reset.  Those features sound really good to me right now.  And, if the state law makers get their way, we would have even more options to safeguard the data on our phone.
