Snapchat For Privacy - Truth or Fiction?

How many of you use Snapchat because you want to at least maintain some level of privacy while taking advantage of the benefits of social media?  I even featured their expansion into video and messaging last week because I was drawn to the idea of privacy on the internet. Well, sorry to tell you that this supposed “privacy” does not really exist.  As Geoff Weiss reports, “Snapchat will face 20 years of independent monitoring” from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for lying to customers about how the content of their messages will be deleted after sending.  Apparently, there are quite a few ways those messages could still be saved by third parties.  The FTC also found out that, despite its claim otherwise, Snapchat was also collecting the personal data of its 4.6 million users.

Given that its claim of privacy is an illusion, what is the benefit of Snapchat over its competitors?
